About the Job
The Veteran Specialist provides direct services, determines eligibility for assistance, coordinates referrals, maintains accurate records, and works closely with community partners. The position is non-exempt, full-time 40 hours a week located in Coleman, TX.
Key Responsibilities
Client Services
Schedule appointments, interview clients, and determine eligibility for assistance
Help veterans, budget resources, and access needed services.
Conduct home visits when necessary.
Daily travel to agency office/outreach locations in service area
Company car provided
Treat all clients with dignity and respect.
Program & Administrative Duties
Ensure funds are available before issuing vouchers or pledges.
Maintain accurate, confidential client files and enter data promptly.
Prepare required reports on time.
Follow all funding source regulations and agency policies.
Obtain correct documentation in accordance with funding source regulations
Community Engagement
Build and maintain relationships with landlords, utility vendors, and community partners.
Participate in outreach, public speaking, and community meetings.
Promote agency involvement in local associations.
Operational Responsibilities
Keep local centers clean, organized, and safe.
Assist with grant research and writing.
Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors.
Follow safety and accountability policies.
Skills
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to read and interpret policies and regulations
Basic math skills
Ability to use computers, email, word processing, and client tracking software
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Good problem-solving skills
Ability to work at fast pace
Work Environment & Employment Terms
Must adhere to agency policies, safety rules, and professional appearance standards
Employment is at-will
Failure to follow policies may result in disciplinary action
Pay: $16 per hour
Hours: Monday -Thursday 8-5 and Friday 8-3.
Requirements
Minimum age: 18
High school diploma/GED and either:
Two years of college, or
Three years of experience in social work or human services
Experience working with low-income families and the general public
Knowledge of veteran resources (VSOs, e-benefits, claims, etc.)
Valid Texas driver’s license, reliable transportation, and liability insurance
Ability to travel regularly
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform tasks requiring sitting, typing, and phone use
