Position Title: Payroll Tax Accountant Position
Type: Temp to Hire or Direct Hire
Pay: $65,000 to $85,000 Annually

Summary: The payroll tax accountant will monitor, manage and reconcile multi-state payroll taxes at the employer and employee level. The individual in this position will be responsible for the reconciliation to the general ledger, all payroll reports and employee benefits reports to ensure compliance and accuracy.

Reconcile and manage payroll tax reporting each pay run to ensure accurate tax deposit submissions
Research complicated interpretations of questions on payroll issues from management.
Monitor accuracy of 401K, benefits and personnel records pertaining to the company.
Prepare and monitor quarterly and annual tax report filings
Reconcile payroll taxes to the general ledger and book appropriate adjusting entries as necessary
Reconcile annual and quarterly payroll reports to FUTA, SUTA and 941s, W-3 and W-2s.
Research and reconciliation of payroll taxes from prior periods related to IRS notices.
Gather and report requested data to internal and external recipients
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage and hour laws
Establish best practices to ensure accuracy between payroll and HR functions
Update federal and state payroll tax rates, employee benefit changes and 401K annual wage limits.
Facilitates 401K audits by providing records and documentation to auditors
Identifies and recommends updates to internal in-house payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral format.
Meet all deadlines throughout the month, quarterly and annually.
Work well with members of the payroll, HR and accounting teams


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Business Administration

  • 2-4 years experience with payroll tax filings and compliance issues

  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented and proficient in Excel

  • Must be able to create reconciliations that clearly communicate

  • Experience reconciling and preparing W-2 forms
