About the Job
Operates a variety of construction equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance, and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to public streets, lands, or buildings. Position receives supervision in task performance and is expected to show good judgment within established guidelines. 1) Operates equipment including rollers, front-end loader, hand and power tools, such as shovels, pickaxe, rakes, sledgehammer, chainsaws, and push broom; 2) Responsible for patching of utility cuts and potholes; 3) Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisors, cleans equipment; 4) Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools; 5) Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids, use saws to cut expansion joints; 6) Will perform street and alley maintenance, and construction projects as directed; 7) Responsible for clearing debris from streets, alleys and drainageways, to also include tree trimming and tree removal when necessary; 8) Will be actively involved in emergency operations such as monitoring storms and high waters; 9) Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Hours: M-Thursday 7am to 4:30pm and 7am to 11am on Friday. On call schedule.
Requirements
Ability and skill to operate equipment safely and efficiently, good driving skills.
Must possess mechanical abilities to perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
Must be able to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
A High School diploma or GED is preferred
Experience driving trucks larger than ¾ ton is preferred.
Experience in operating other related equipment is desirable.
Prefer a Texas Commercial Driver License Class B with an “N” endorsement
